Indian businesses are seeing the anti-China sentiment as an opportunity to expand their portfolios. As the government announced the ban on 59 Chinese apps including the widely used TikTok, the market has recorded a rise in number of similar applications. Amongst all this, vernacular social media app ShareChat has launched a short video making app- Moj on Google Play Store.

The development comes two days after the popular Chinese apps Helo and Tik Tok were banned. Moj, which allows users to make 15-second videos with features like lip-syncing is available in 15 languages including Oriya, Bhojpuri, Tamil, Telegu and Haryanvi. The app has already crossed 10,000 downloads since its launch on June 29.

“People from TikTok, Viva Video, Vigo Video, New Video Status, Vmate, U Video, SelfieCity, Beauty Plus, YouCam makeup, Wonder Camera, Photo Wonder, Sweselfie, Hago are welcome to 100% Made in India Short Video App by ShareChat,” the company said on Google Play Store where it already has a rating of 4.4.

Ecommerce giant Flipkart is also expected to launch a social commerce platform called 2GudSocial with influencer-led video commerce, aimed at consumers from small towns and lower-income groups. The ban on Tik Tok has created a need for a platform for 200 million users.

As reported earlier, Zee5 has also launched its short video app HiPi before its due date in August. Mitron TV and InMobi’s Riposo too are strong in the race of taking over Tik Tok.
